You may have heard about someone talking about therapy at the gym, at the supplement store, or in a doctor’s office.

The human body does produce growth hormones.
In fact, they’re synthesized in the pituitary gland, a small gland (about the size of a pea) deep in the brain.
According to the US National Library of Medicine, the pituitary gland is often given the nickname “master gland” in the body because it regulates the function and activities of endocrine glands mainly responsible for hormone synthesis and release.
The pituitary gland is situated just above the hypothalamus.
The hypothalamus is responsible for telling the pituitary gland what hormones to send into the body through neuro-electrical or hormonal messaging signals.
One of these many hormones is growth hormone, also known as GH, is responsible for bone and muscle growth.
However, sometimes the hypothalamus or the pituitary gland doesn’t work properly, which can result in not only retardation of normal growth and development, but may cause Laron Syndrome, defined as a type of dwarfism.
At the other end of the spectrum, malfunction of the gland causes secretion of too much growth hormone, which leads to a condition known as giantism.
Excessive secretions of HGH, can cause a condition known as acromegaly, which results in a larger than normal bones, most noticeable in the face, the hands, and the feet.
Presence of growth hormone is most prevalent during the adolescent growing years, but then gradually declines as we age.
During growth spurts in adolescence, HGH is responsible for helping to monitor muscle and bone growth, metabolism of fats and sugars, body fluid levels, as well as body composition.
In the medical field, HGH therapy is often recommended for a number of medical conditions experienced by children and adults.
It was developed in the mid-1980s and approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for such use.
Synthetic human growth hormone injections have been used for years to treat numerous conditions including but not limited to the following.
Synthetic growth hormone has been used to treat adults in a number of limited conditions that include:
Recently, HGH therapy in the form of dosage injections as well as supplements in a number of forms including oral tablets for sale have become more popular to increase athletic performance and antiaging therapies.
It should be noted however, that scientific studies regarding the ability of human growth hormone to actually reverse age-related decline have yet to be verified through clinical trials and studies.
The Food and Drug Administration does not approve use of HGH for athletic performance or enhancement or in the use of antiaging therapies.
However, the general belief is that these supplements and injections can help to stimulate the body’s own hormone production for beneficial fitness, health, and wellness.
HGH injections, most commonly known generically as somatropin, can cause a number of side effects in users.
Safe, natural, and legal methods of increasing levels of HGH in the body through the use of dietary supplements is an option taken by many.
Some of the side effects associated with somatropin injections include but are not limited to headache, fatigue, nausea or vomiting, muscle pain and/or joint stiffness, and even cold or allergy symptoms.
It should not be taken in any form during pregnancy or if you are breast-feeding because the effects of doing so are uncertain.
Injections or supplements may also interact with other medications including those prescribed for diabetics, and with anti-seizure medications, birth control pills, and hormone replacement medications.
If you’re interested, talk to your doctor about HGH therapy benefits, how it affects the body, whether it’s safe to use in your present condition, and any potential drawbacks to use.
